What is the IDF (Independent Doctors Federation)?

The Independent Doctors Federation (IDF) is a membership body representing independent private medical practitioners in the UK. Membership of the IDF is not a requirement for clinicians’ practicing privately, although it does provide some benefits such as an appraisal scheme and further education.

Who are the IDF?

The Independent Doctors Federation is a nationwide organisation which aims to support the community of independent GPs and specialists to help them to deliver outstanding clinical care in the private sector.

They strive to promote excellence within the medical sector and give benefits and support to members.

Who do the IDF work with?

The IDF is works with the British Medical Association, the Care Quality Commission, the Department of Health, the Royal Colleges, private health insurers and private hospital providers to create a holistic network within the private healthcare community.

How can the IDF help?

As well as the support and online resources, the IDF run events throughout the year ranging from educational webinars to in person training and social events.  

Membership starts from £325 per year and can be purchased via their website.  

It is important to note that membership to the IDF is not a requirement to practice as a private GP.
