As a private GP, how do I find local private clinicians and consultants?

Building a network of private specialists is vital to the successful delivery of a private general practice service. In order to do this, private GPs working independently and at the early stage of their career, may co-locate their practice in a private hospital outpatient centre – where they’ll have regular opportunities to meet private consultants. However, more typically the ‘black book’ of specialists is developed via word of mouth, internet searches and from networking events.

Are there any other ways of handling private referrals?

More premium private hospital groups are now offering “concierge” referral lines, where private GPs can simply direct their referral to the concierge, who then takes responsibility for finding an appropriate clinician.

A similar concept is available with Medbelle; they offer a “personal case advisor” service to manage the secondary care process. Medbelle will accept private GP referrals, and become the co-ordinator for the secondary care process.
